The University Libraries (www.lib.vt.edu) of Virginia Tech invites applications for a new position. The Electronic Resources Technical Services Librarian will develop cataloging and maintenance procedures for electronic eresources; train catalogers in electronic resources cataloging; do original and copy cataloging of eresources, and coordinate batch loading of records for collection of electronic resources and major microform sets. The position will serve as the liaison to Acquisitions in order to ensure the smooth integration of electronic subscriptions and purchases into the library's OPAC, VTLS. Additionally, the position will assist the Head of Acquisitions with tracking titles and resolving access issues, such as links to library holdings within electronic databases; gather collection and cataloging statistics for electronic resources. This new position requires monitoring cataloging activity at other research libraries and keeping current with national trends in electronic resources cataloging. Reports to the Head of Cataloging. QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Master's degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA accredited program, knowledge of the principles of bibliographic control, MARC formats, Classification System and Subject Headings of the Library of Congress. Familiarity with current trends and issues in cataloging, particularly as they relate to eresources. Preferred: Cataloging experience in an academic library highly desirable. Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to foster a collegial work environment that encourages change and innovation; ability to foster team work and collaboration; ability to use data -based decision making and problem solving processes. Professional contributions beyond the primary job, such as research and publication, active participation in professional organizations, and other creative endeavors are expected for continued appointment. Finalists invited for an interview will do a presentation for the library community. Salary: Twelve-month appointment, salary mid $30's commensurate with experience and credentials.
