As you consider attending ALA Annual meeting in San Francisco (June
15-June 19, 2001), you will want to check out this LITA institute: "THE
FUTURE OF SERIALS CONTROL: Implementation of the MARC21 Holdings
Format". The institute, co-sponsered by MARBI, is offered as a
preconference to ALA form 8:30 to 4:30 on Friday, June 15. Cost to
LITA members is only $165, with a charge of $210 to ALA members, $285
to non-members. The institute has a wealth of information about
serials control and publication prediction. Experts in the format
will be explaining its relationship to current ILS vendor Serials
Control software. There will be a whole section on the CONSER pilot,
CONSER Publication Pattern Intitiative, to begin work on contributing
to a national publication pattern database. Vendors products such as
VTLS (Virtua), Endeavor (Voyager), ExLibris (Aleph), and EOS (Q
Series) will be demonstrated. A panel of six ILS vendor
representatives, including DRA and III, will answer questions about
their support for the MARC holdings format. Rebecca Guenther, Library
of Congress, and Frieda Rosenberg, University of North Carolina, will
provide expert technical information on the format and national
standards. Look for detailed description and registration information
on www.lita.org/ac2001/serials.htm.
