SERIALS/ACQUISITIONS LIBRARIAN
Gettysburg College Library invites applications for a service-oriented
librarian to join its technical services team. Musselman Library is a
dynamic organization where every staff member makes a difference. We
serve
a small, liberal arts community of 2,400 students. Service and access
are
our core values. All librarians serve as active liaisons to two or more
academic departments and have numerous continuing education and
professional development opportunities.
The Serials/Acquisitions Librarian leads a staff of 4.5 who complete
acquisition of monographs, serials, and electronic resources, binding,
and
associated fiscal activities. The successful candidate cultivates
business
relationships with vendors, negotiates and manages contracts and
licenses
for digital information products, and acts as liaison with College
Purchasing for managing license agreements. The Serials/Acquisitions
Librarian manages physical and virtual serials collections and maintains
awareness of emerging trends in scholarly communications and publishing.
This librarian also participates in collection development decisions for
materials in all formats with vital input on serials. Supervises the
processing of gift materials. Hires, trains, and evaluates staff.
Participates in service at an active reference desk.
Qualifications:
Required: ALA-accredited master's degree in library or information
science.
Experience with serials operations. Effective communication,
interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong customer
service orientation. Ability to work well with colleagues, staff, and
external clients. Knowledge of the marketplace for library resources,
including the changes associated with electronic delivery of
information.
Preferred: Work experience in an academic library. Supervisory and
training experience. Experience with Innovative Interfaces system.
Knowledge of serials cataloging (print and electronic).
