Re: Digital Microform Readers Deb Dickson 25 Jul 2001 18:34 UTC

We have an ImageMouse from Datagrafix that I would not recommend for
anything -- not even for a paperweight. The item is expensive, the software
is unwieldy and not public-friendly (takes a bit of training to figure out)
and the zoom function is not as strong as it could be. Also, it is not
powerful enough to read some of the earlier microfiche (that had smaller
images) and ultrafiche is not readible either. Printing it out to a laser
printer is expensive as well -- and patrons might not be happy with the
quality of the prints.

Good luck in your search. Our ImageMouse was an expensive fiasco... We
ordered it, tried to use it and had no real luck. The public ignored it when
we put it on a public workstation -- and the extra mouse near the computer
just added confusion for patrons that wanted to use the computer for other
things.

All long the same lines as yesterday's discussion- has anyone tried the
Image Mouse from Brodart? We are looking for a Microfilm/fiche machine
that is PC comparable with digital imaging. If anyone has any information
we would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks
