Re: Circulating Periodicals? Hallie Hankel 22 Oct 2001 19:21 UTC

We are a public library in suburban New Orleans.

We have 1 main library, 1 regional and 13 branches.

All locations check out magazines, except for the newest issues. Some
locations check out the new issues of children's magazines.

The main and some locations do not check out "reference" titles, such as
Consumer Reports.

We do not check out newspapers except for Variety, Billboard, New York
Review of Books and Times Literary Supplement.

Currently, our periodicals circulate like books, for 3 weeks. When we
migrate to Epixtech next year, periodical circulation will change to 7 days.

Periodical fines are the same as books: .15 per day and 5.00 maximium per
item.

Quantity limits on checkouts are very high (like books: something like 20 or
30 items).

I was surprised to find out how many places have duplicate subscriptions to
Consumer Reports, etc. This is some good information.

Thanks,
Hallie

Subject: Circulating Periodicals?

Are there any public libraries on this list that are currently
circulating periodicals? If so, is it done at all branches, or selected
branches? What criteria do you use to decide which ones circulate, or
when they are allowed to circulate? How many can be checked out and how
long is the borrowing period?

If you do not circulate periodicals, what are your reasons?

Thanks for any information you can provide,
