                OLD DOMINION UNIVERSITY
                    PERRY LIBRARY

CATALOGING SERVICES LIBRARIAN:   Reporting to the Head of Bibliographic
Services, this position is responsible for the organization and production
cataloging of the library's collections and information resources.
Position
responsibilities include: providing leadership in establishing cataloging
standards, policies and procedures, implementing innovative use of
appropriate
technologies, managing the personnel administration of 1 librarian and 5
classified staff, performing original cataloging and classification of
materials in all formats, maintaining authority control in the library
catalog, managing government publications processing.  All librarians act
as bibliographers for assigned subject areas and participate on a variety
of
university and library committees and teams.

QUALIFICATIONS: REQUIRED: ALA accredited MLS; effective interpersonal and
communication skills; progressively responsible experience with cataloging
policies, principles, tools and utilities, including OCLC or other
bibliographic utility, AACR2, USMARC formats, LCSH, and LC classification;
supervisory experience; experience with integrated library systems;
analytical
skills (such as problem solving, time management and computer applications
skills); evidence of a user centered perspective.  PREFERRED: knowledge of
at least one foreign language, knowledge of HTML, SGML; knowledge of
Innovative Interfaces integrated library system; experience with government
publications processing; experience managing cataloging module of
integrated
library system.

SALARY/BENEFITS: Minimum salary is $33,000.  Excellent benefits package.

LOCATION: Old Dominion University is a state-assisted institution with
enrollment of 19,000 and is one of the nation's leaders in distance
learning.
