Christa _________________________ Position: Serials Librarian Job Classification: Assistant or Associate Librarian Summary: The Serials Group of Stanford University Libraries includes Serials Receiving, Government Documents, and Electronic Products. The Serials Receiving Unit is responsible for ordering, receipt, and claiming of approximately 27,000 active serials titles in all languages and alphabets. The Government Documents unit is responsible for processing serials and monographs received on GPO, State of California, and UN depository plans, and includes administration of the Marcive Shipping List Service. The Serials Department began conversion to online check-in with Sirsi's Unicorn in October, 1999. The Serials Department and its staff work closely with Monograph Search/Order and Monograph Receiving to optimize services and functions. Duties: Under the general direction of the Head, Serial and Digital Acquistions, the Serials Librarian manages the Serials Receiving and Government Documents units, supported by a paraprofessional Operations Manager and Team Leader. After an appropriate training period, the Serials Librarian assumes responsibility for management of the functional Unicorn serials control. Specific Responsibilities: � Coordinate the work of Serials Receiving (9 FTE and 1 FTE Operations Manager); optimize the unit's function while maintaining 24-hour turnaround for processing of approximately 2000 pieces per week. � Manage the work of Government Document Serials (3 FTE and 1 FTE Team Leader). � Exercise independent judgment in identifying and resolving precedent-setting matters in Serials. � Communicate effectively and proactively with staff at service points that receive serials, e.g., branch serial specialists and operations managers, Information Center. � Maintain smooth and productive interface with monograph acquisitions and cataloging units. � Manage function and application of the Unicorn serials control module and coordinate with other serial control units on campus. Represent SUL in Unicorn serials control enhancement forum and conversations. � Monitor vendor performance. � Oversee development and maintenance of a Serials web page that supports the needs of staff within and beyond Serials. � Participate in library-wide task forces and committees. � Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: � Experience in managing serials control issues in a medium or large library usually associated with 2-5 years of experience. � Experience managing online serials control via a major ILS vendor interface � Ability to manage staff, time, and projects in an environment that is dynamic and extremely complex. � Ability to work effectively with others to achieve team goals. � Experience with the serials control and/or acquisitions module of Unicorn is preferred but not required.
