The University of Richmond libraries seek an energetic, creative, knowledgeable librarian to serve as head of Bibliographic Access Services (BAS). BAS is responsible for providing to the libraries and their users efficient, cost-effective, quality services in acquisitions, cataloging, and serials management. The head of BAS will be someone who is willing to experiment, to seek new ways to use technology to provide bibliographic access to the University's information resources in a variety of formats, and to expand the range of digital information assets made accessible through the library's system. Responsibilities: The head of BAS is responsible for planning, personnel, supervision, training, and day-to-day operations of BAS. These operations involve bibliographic control of resources in print, media and other electronic formats. Establishes and evaluates procedures for acquisition of monographs, serials, AV materials, and online databases and for description of these materials for ease of retrieval. Reviews and modifies organization of BAS and workflows within BAS as needed to assure efficient, cost-effective, quality services. Works with public services librarians to assure that patron needs are met. Will participate significantly in planning and implementation of a program to integrate and manage a wide range of electronic resources using the full capabilities of the Endeavor Information Systems ENCompass product. Serves as liaison to external vendors and communicates and collaborates with other Voyager users to develop optimal use of the system. Will move the division towards a concentration in providing access tools for digital information. Required Qualifications: Master's degree in library/information science from a program accredited by the American Library Association. Minimum of five years experience, including significant successful supervision of full-time library workers, in the areas of acquisitions, cataloging, and serials management. Professional leadership in at least one emerging area of bibliographic access such as metadata, digital libraries, or library systems. Strong knowledge, both theoretical and practical, of serials management and serials issues as applied to both print and online serials. Knowledge of current and emerging standards for bibliographic description; trends in information storage, organization, and retrieval. Experience with standards for electronic information transfer between various systems, especially between local library bibliographic systems and vendors' systems as well as local institutional fiscal management systems. Knowledge of integrated library systems, creative problem-solving skills, effective oral and written communication. The University of Richmond offers a competitive salary commensurate wit experience.
