We really don't treat these as cavalierly as I obviously sounded; we do include the annual versions (again, unless they are nothing but a glorified Table of Contents) with titles we bind. Jeanette L. We check them in, keep them in boxes till the end of the vol. or year, and --if small--tip it in locally, or if larger --send it to be bound in. If it's too large for that, which is typical only for a multi -year cumulated index, it gets bound as a separate volume. Even in areas with good subject indexing like chemistry they are still helpful. For popular periodicals or trade publications that may never get indexed properly otherwise they're really essential--though even here collections like Ebsco/Proquest/Lexis/etc. have helped. But, alas, it is a lot of painstaking manual work that nobody likes to do. If you have a good excuse not to do it, you're lucky. I'm impressed by the UWGB simplified method! > > -------- Original Message -------- > Subject: Re: Magazine index -- Marc Passucci > Date: Tue, 9 Apr 2002 08:12:28 -0500 > From: "Skwor, Jeanette" <skworj@UWGB.EDU> > > ***It depends upon the quality of the index.
