Electronic Resources Access Librarian

The University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for a tenure-track
library faculty position to take the lead in exploring innovative methods
of access to electronic resources. The position will coordinate procedures
and workflow for staff involved in these activities and projects.
Reporting to the Director of Metadata Services, the incumbent will
collaborate within a collegial environment that supports forward-looking
experimentation and solutions.

Responsibilities:
· articulate and implement strategies for providing access to materials
in packages or acquired separately, purchased non-serial electronic
resources, and digitized library collections;
· actively search for creative methods of providing access to electronic
resources within and supplementary to the OPAC;
· continuously evaluate evolving standards and technologies, seeking to
optimize quality and timeliness of data;
· collaborate with staff in other library departments, such as Reference
or Systems, to develop applications that improve access to library
resources;
· cooperate with catalogers and the Applications Development Librarian
in maintaining a workflow for loading files into the OPAC, using tools such
as MARCMaker, and for generating Web pages from the OPAC;
· recommend, implement and improve the maintenance program for Web links
in cataloging records;
· work with Director of Resource Acquisition and Serials Department to
coordinate and document relevant workflow between them and the Catalog
Department;
· supervise one or more staff;
· collaborate with staff engaged in electronic resources cataloging or
other metadata projects, such as the current MetaLib/SFX implementation
project;
· work closely with Director of Metadata Services and other catalogers
to coordinate priorities, policies, staffing, and workflow within the
Catalog Department;
·  engage in research and service to meet requirements for promotion and
tenure.

Qualifications:
· ALA accredited MLS (by date of hire);
· dedication to serving library users by well-managed presentation of
resources;
· strong interest in creating access to serials in an evolving digital
information environment;
· general understanding of cataloging/metadata problems, relevant
standards, and emerging technologies;
· healthy skepticism regarding cataloging traditions and assumptions,
and a desire to shape evolving standards;
· excellent analytical abilities;
· independence to manage work demands and staff supervision in an
energetic library setting;
· ability to work collegially in exploring questions and developing
plans;
· potential to meet requirements for UNR tenure and promotion.

Compensation: Salary minimum $43,962. TIAA/CREF and other retirement
options; 24 vacation days per year; generous sick leave. No state income
tax or FICA. Tuition benefits for self and family.

Campus and Environment:

The University Libraries report to the Vice President for Information
Technology, who also serves as Dean of the University Libraries.  The
Libraries are a critical and valued component in an organizationally
unified campus information infrastructure, which includes Campus Computing
(academic computing), Campus Information Systems (administrative
computing), Networking and Telecommunications, Teaching and Learning
Technologies, the Campus Webmaster, a National Public Radio affiliate, as
well as the Office of Process and Performance Planning. Librarians are
expected to work with colleagues across these increasingly artificial
departmental boundaries. Librarians hold the senior management positions
in Networking and Telecommunications and in Teaching and Learning
Technologies.

The University of Nevada, Reno is planning for a new $60+ million central
library. It is the land-grant university and major research institution in
the state with a student body of 14,000. The University's main campus is
in Reno, a metropolitan area of 300,000, on the eastern slope of the
Sierra Nevada Mountains, minutes from California and 35 miles from Lake
Tahoe. Reno is a community noted for its arts and festivals as well as
outdoor recreational opportunities.
