CC:DA Meetings at ALA Annual Kristin Lindlan 09 Jun 2002 19:04 UTC

The ALCTS/CCS/Committee on Cataloging: Description and Access will hold two
meetings at the ALA Annual Conference in Atlanta, GA:

      Saturday, June 15, 2:00 - 5:30 PM
Atlanta Marriott Marquis, Marquis Ballroom IV

      Monday, June 17, 8:00 AM - 12:30 PM
      Renaissance Hotel, Z Atlanta Ballroom

The Saturday afternoon meeting will feature reports from Barbara Tillett,
the Library of Congress Representative and from Matthew Beacom, the ALA
Representative to the Joint Steering Committee, who will report on the May
2002 meeting of JSC in New Haven, Conn. Barbara Tillett will also give a
presentation on the IFLA Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records.

The Monday morning CC:DA meeting will include reports from several Task
Forces and discussion of several pending rule revision proposals. The
Monday meeting will also include:

Discussions on revisions to the CC:DA Procedures and
the document "How to Submit a Rule Change Proposal
      to CC:DA";

Reports from the MARBI Representative, Mark Watson,
and from the CC:DA Webmaster, John Attig.

Following the regular CC:DA meeting, at approximately 11:00, CC:DA will
hold a joint meeting with MARBI, in the same place (Renaissance Hotel, Z
Atlanta Ballroom). The topic of mutual interest will be the IFLA
Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR) and MARC 21. This
topic was triggered by the release earlier this year of a model prepared by
Tom Delsey which compared the FRBR entities with the MARC 21 bibliographic
and holdings formats and with AACR2, as well as proposing some extensions
to the FRBR model. The joint meeting will include remarks by Sally H.
McCallum of the Network Development and MARC Standards Office at LC, by Tom
Delsey, and by Glenn Patton of OCLC, and discussion by the committees and
observers.
