Cataloging Librarian

Goucher College, a selective, coeducational liberal arts college located on a beautiful 287-acre wooded campus just north of Baltimore, Maryland, invites applications for the position of Cataloging Librarian. This is an exciting opportunity for an innovative professional to provide leadership in creating appropriate access to the collections of the Julia Rogers Library. The successful candidate will join a progressive, congenial staff as it plans a new, multi-function college library building. Primary responsibilities of the position include:

* Create and maintain original cataloging records for materials in various media;
* Plan and implement intellectual and virtual access methods for electronic resources;
* Provide guidance and direction to the copy cataloging technician;
* Monitor emerging national and international standards and practices;
* Perform authority control and maintain the integrity of the online catalog database;
* Oversee routine projects such as transfers and withdrawals of materials and updating serials records and holdings;
* Establish and document cataloging policies and procedures;
* Assist in the supervision of student employees;
* Participate in local and national discussions through professional development and service activities;
* Provide reference service as part of the evening and weekend rotation;
* Serve as a liaison to at least one academic department.

Qualifications: ALA accredited MLS; original cataloging experience, including some work with serials, electronic resources and other media; knowledge of the principles and practices of bibliographic control (e.g., AACR2r, LCSH, DDC, MARC21); reading knowledge of at least one Western European foreign language; cataloging experience using OCLC and Innovative Interfaces (or comparable services/systems); experience with authority control; strong organizational skills; flexibility in a computer-intensive environment; excellent communication and training skills; eagerness to contribute to team efforts.
