New URL's added, who do you tell? Helen Cahill 19 Nov 2002 20:39 UTC

Hi all,

As part of my work, I add URL's to records on our system for serials which
are available via the Web. The URL's are given to me by a number of people
from different areas of the library, and I have a concern that there are
people who could benefit from knowing when I have added URL's if only I was
telling them. I wondered if anybody would mind sharing their processes?

Could you please explain:

1. Is there a selection process for titles which are discovered "free" on
the web? Is it the same kind of process as for unsolicited print material?

2. For titles that you already collect in print:
- Do you have to notify anyone when you add an URL to the record?
- Is there a difference in the notification process between an URL added
for an aggregator rather than the publisher's URL when they make online
available free with print?

3. Do you make any attempt to create a "New URL's added this week" kind of
list? - If so, who do you send it to?

4. Any other advice or opinions?

Thanks in advance, I'll be happy to send a summary of responses to the list.
