Re: Subscription Service for Newspapers Jenny Finch 24 Apr 2003 17:22 UTC

The Public Library where I work uses Ebsco. We don't have a problem with
the delivery of newspapers that we subscribe to through them. However,
they have dropped several of the more local papers that we want to receive,
so we have to subscribe to them individually. We have had one problem
because one publisher produces 2 newspapers. Ebsco and the publisher seemed
to have trouble communicating, when we stopped receiving one, the newspaper
carrier got in trouble for not delivering. We got it worked out however. I
would say the main problem is if a paper is not received. It is easier to
contact the local paper and get a new one, than to contact Ebsco and have
them be the middle man. This is really only an issue for the local papers
however. Most of our papers come through the mail. They arrive quickly and
we haven't had many problems with them.

My opinions only,

Subject: Subscription Service for Newspapers

We are having to bid out our subscription service this year and have a few
questions.

How many people are using subscription service vendors versus ordering
direct for delivery of daily newspapers?
If you are using subscription service vendors do you get the newspapers in a
timely way?

We're trying to determine whether to include newspapers on our RFP process
or just continue to order them separately.

Thanks for all your help,
