Hot Topics Session at NASIG Conference announced Maggie Rioux 10 Jun 2003 13:18 UTC

On behalf of the 2002-2003 Program Planning Committee of NASIG, I'm
pleased to announce the "Hot Topics" session at NASIG.

"Industry Consolidation and its Effects on Serials - Views from Several
Sides"

ABSTRACT: What does industry consolidation mean for all of us? What do
some of the leading lights in the profession think about mergers and
acquisitions on both the publishing side and the vendor side. Where do
they see the industry heading?"

Speakers:
Keith Courtney Director Taylor and Francis Ltd., Chair-UKSG
Miriam Gilbert Ass't VP for Licensing and Consortia Sales,
                        Marcel Dekker, Inc
Michael Markwith President, TDNet Inc
Kim Maxwell Serials Acquisitions Librarian, MIT.

Each speaker will have 5-10 minutes maximum to present their own
thoughts on the subject of industry consolidation. We will then open up
the topic for a freewheeling, no holds barred, honest and frank, give
and take discussion between the speakers and the attendees. We are
encouraging the speakers to interact with each other and freely
challenge any thoughts or statements in which they may disagree.

A moderator will be facilitating both sessions on Saturday and Sunday.

***The idea of "Hot Topics" was created this past year in response to
evaluation comments asking for a presentation on a pertinent,
late-breaking topic that would be of interest to all the constituencies
within the serials information chain.***

If you haven't registered for the 2003 conference-it's not too late to
do so as we're envisioning this concurrent to be SRO (standing room only!)

Many thanks to our speakers who agreed to speak with a relatively short
timeline. Thanks must also be given to the current PPC co-chairs: Kate
Manuel, Charity Martin and Sharon Sullivan and to Board Member-at-Large
Mary Page, for developing and finalizing this dynamic concurrent session.
