OSU is located in Corvallis, a community of 50,000 people situated in the Willamette Valley between Portland and Eugene. Ocean beaches, lakes, rivers, forests, high desert, and the rugged Cascade and Coast Ranges are all within a 100-mile drive of Corvallis. Approximately 15,400 undergraduate and 3,400 graduate students are enrolled at OSU, including 2,500 U.S. students of color and 1,200 international students. All are encouraged to apply. POSITION DESCRIPTION: Formulates, recommends and executes policy pertaining to serials check-in, claiming, ordering and receipt. Serves as a resource person for the resolution of serials problems. Supervises 6 full-time classified staff: makes hiring decisions; determines training needs, recommends training programs and trains staff in serials check-in and claiming procedures and the use of new technology for serials acquisitions; conducts performance evaluations. Manages the timely completion of projects relating to serials holding record clean up. Acts as a liaison between the Serials Acquisitions Unit and the Electronic Resources Assistant, the Serials Cataloging Unit Head and the Head of Collections. Works under the general supervision of the Head of Technical Services, referring questions for consultation. Makes vendor recommendations, monitors vendor performance and coordinates ordering, receiving and payment authorizations. Depending on qualifications, may provide original and complex copy! cataloging of serials, perform reference desk duties, or participate in digital projects. Qualifications: Required: Minimum of one year supervisory experience; ability to supervise and train staff; proven aptitude for leadership and supervision. Demonstrated knowledge of serials check-in, claiming, ordering and receipt in an electronic environment. Experience with Serials and/or Acquisitions modules of an automated library system. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with Technical Services staff, other library staff, library users, and vendors. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience with Microsoft Excel and other microcomputer applications. Preferred: Bachelors degree. Experience with electronic serials ordering and check-in in an academic library or a similar large or complex library setting. Experience with government documents check-in and processing. Experience with III's Millenium Serials and/or Acquisitions modules. Preferred qualifications include a demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity. POSITION INFORMATION: This is a full-time, 12-month, fixed term professional faculty appointment. Renewal is at the discretion of the University Librarian. Minimum salary of $32,000 annually plus medical, dental and life insurance are available; staff tuition fee privileges for employee or a dependent at an Oregon University System school (restrictions apply).
