We had several of the Xerox digital Bookmarks which were used pretty
heavily (I was working in a medical library at the time) and they seemed
to be pretty sturdy. They also seemed to work pretty well for bound
journals since that was probably 90% of what was copied in that library,
but that was three years ago and I don't know what new stuff might be on
the market.

We just bought three of these new models last year and absolutely love
them. I haven't had any problems with photocopying bound journals, and
the digital features have really cut down on maintenance problems.

Subject: Photocopiers for bound journals - seeking advice

Good afternoon

Our library is in the process of contracting for new student photocopier
machines. Some of the machines we have are not great when photocopying
bound periodicals. Although, they have a drop edge they do not photocopy
far enough to the left margin. Our older machines, which did provide this
feature, worked much better and of course, this model is no longer made.

The result has been a number of pages coming loose from journals and
books.

One model the university is giving serious consideration to is the Xerox
digital BookMark copier. Does anyone have any comments on this model
generally ( durability, easy of use etc. ) and specifically regarding
photocopying bound journals and books?

Does anyone have any photocopiers that they would highly
recommend for student use, again with particular emphasis to
photocopying bound materials, durability, ease of use ...?

Any comments, advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
David J. Weeks
