Electronic Resources Systems Librarian, Radford University, Radford, VA

Radford University seeks an accomplished, innovative, and proactive
systems librarian to assist with the design, delivery, and maintenance
of a leading-edge information technology infrastructure in support of
the University Library's mission. The position will assist in the
planning, development, implementation, and maintenance of a robust
information technology platform.

This position has primary responsibility for implementing, and managing
improved E-Serials Services including e-serials management, XML and
metadata encoding, authentication, and related technical issues. The
position also is responsible for implementing, and managing
comprehensive content-linking/resolution service technologies at the
article level, and system administration of the Proxy and Interlibrary
Loan Servers.  Assist in strategic planning and in evaluating and
recommending services, products and projects. Provide instruction, user
aids, and assistance in problem solving for library IT applications.
This librarian works closely with Coordinator of Library Technology,
Information Systems Administrator, Acquisitions Librarian, Cataloging
Librarian, and Interlibrary Loan staff.

Library faculty are twelve-month, non-tenured professional faculty with
academic rank and responsibilities for collection development,
university service, and professional development/contributions.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: The successful candidate will have knowledge of current and
emerging Library Technologies. Server administration and management
experience. Familiarity with current and emerging content-linking and
authentications standards including; OpenURL, DOI, Z39.50.  Master's
degree in Library Science or Information Science from an ALA-accredited
program.

Preferred: familiarity with ILLiad, SQL, IIS, EZProxy, Internet
technologies, computer networks, library automation systems, server
management,  Win2000/NT/2003, HTML, MS Office and internet applications,
OSI (Open Source Initiative), OAI (Open Archives Metadata Harvesting
Protocol.), Shibboleth, LDAP, MetaData/Dublin Core, Marc21, PURL. Strong
evidence of interest and ability in applying innovative technologies to
enhance library services.

Preferred: experience in an academic library/information technology
setting; experience in Information Technology administration/management;
experience implementing and supporting enterprise-wide networked
information technology. A customer service orientation with a focus on
achieving practical results.

The successful candidate will have excellent planning and project
management skills; superior organizational, analytical, troubleshooting
and communication skills; the ability to configure servers and to
implement and manage network security; a commitment to professional
development; and an ability to work effectively in a collaborative
environment as part of a team and with diverse groups, maintaining an
environment of mutual respect.  Will have proven data management skills
(Databases, Spreadsheets, Office Applications) and a demonstrated
knowledge of how people use information and how its effective
organization and appropriate content can facilitate scholarly research.

The successful candidate will exhibit flexibility, creativity, and
initiative; have the ability to effectively communicate technical issues
to colleagues, library patrons, and vendors, and have a demonstrated
commitment to skills development for professional growth and position
requirements. Position reports to the Coordinator of Library Technology.
