May I suggest that this sort of study would be much more useful, relevant
and informative if it did not just focus on whether or not publishers
have gone from toll-access publishing to open-access ("gold") publishing,
but also on whether or not they have an open-access-friendly ("green")
policy on author/institution self-archiving?

Dual Open-Access Strategy:
BOAI-2 ("gold"): Publish your article in a suitable open-access
            journal whenever one exists.
BOAI-1 ("green"): Otherwise, publish your article in a suitable
toll-access journal and also self-archive it.
