JOB POSTING ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Requisition #18460 Position Title: Preservation Project Cataloger (Part-time) Harvard University Library, Weissman Preservation Center Salary Grade: 56 Duties & Responsibilities Under the direction of the Preservation Cataloger and Projects Manager, the Preservation Project Cataloger reviews and revises bibliographic and holdings records prepared by library assistants for microfilmed and/or digitized versions of library materials selected for the HUL Open Collections Program. The incumbent also prepares bibliographic and local authority records for bibliographically complex materials prior to their reformatting. All work is performed in the context of a project with weekly production goals. This part-time (20 to 25 hours per week) temporary position will support the HUL Open Collections Program, which is creating digital preservation reproductions of materials on the topic of women and work in the United States from 1870-1930. Reviews the bibliographic and holdings records prepared in HOLLIS for monographs by cataloging and preservation assistants to insure adherence to national and local standards and practice. Prepares bibliographic and holdings records in HOLLIS for complex monographic materials. Creates and maintains authority records in local authority file and resolves authority problems as appropriate. Assists in providing staff with feedback about their cataloging; interpreting cataloging policies for staff; and answering questions. Assists in communicating with technical services staff at project libraries about bibliographic problems needing resolution. May also assist in the cataloging of serials and archival materials prior to their reformatting. Required Education, Experience, Skills Master's degree in library science; minimum of two years of experience cataloging monographs using AACR2, LCRI, USMARC 21, LCSH, and OCLC; solid working knowledge of monograph cataloging (including monographic series); basic understanding of authority records; ability to analyze and solve cataloging problems and assist in analyzing procedures and workflow; excellent oral and written English skills; ability to prioritize and adapt to production schedules, meet deadlines, and achieve goals required. Must be flexible and able to work collaboratively in a strong team environment. Working knowledge of HOLLIS; serials cataloging experience and familiarity with CONSER documentation; familiarity with collection-level records and finding aids for archival collections; academic background in women's history; experience with RECON projects; and familiarity with pre-AACR2 cataloging codes and local bibliographic standards desirable.
