POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT Fordham University Library, Bronx, N.Y. (www.library.fordham.edu) is seeking to fill the position of Serials and Electronic Resources librarian. Under the direction of the Head of the Serials & Electronic Resources Department, to perform a variety of tasks related to the acquisition, cataloging and management of a large collection of serial publications in all formats, including electronic resources. RESPONSIBILITIES Cataloging serial publications in all formats, languages and subjects, using OCLC, AACR2, Marc records, LCSH and LC classification. Creating and maintaining serial control and holding records in the automated library system (SIRSI). Helping to identify, research and resolve complex serials cataloging, acquisition and holdings problems; coordinating functions related to serials management with other departments and campuses. Performing tasks related to electronic resources management (e-journals and databases): providing access (activation, registration) to and cataloging of e-journals; managing the library’s web-based List of electronic journals via Serials Solutions; setting up access to databases, ensuring addition of databases to the library website; troubleshooting access problems, handling annual renewals and payment problems. Providing ongoing maintenance of e-resources: ensuring continued access throughout the life of database subscriptions, checking their delivery and website display, claiming broken links or missing content; keeping up with changes in e-journals subscriptions. Setting-up full text linking from our subscription databases to e-journals when available, and maintaining the access. Updating and keeping current the List of Databases on the Library network drive. Assisting in other tasks related to online journals/databases as it becomes necessary. Monitoring Internet/listserves for content and access changes of e-resources, keeping up with the trends in their development at the publishers/vendors sites and implementing any changes that pertain to our collection. Monitoring such materials as updates to MARC formats, CONSER documents and e-mail discussion lists pertaining to serials/electronic resources. Participating in special projects or related duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS Master’s degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution, additional Master’s degree is desirable. Experience in serials management and proven ability to work with this complex material. Experience working with electronic resources, ability to handle all aspects of their acquisition and maintenance. Propensity for very detailed work, problem solving skills, ability to communicate effectively with the supervisor, library staff, vendors and publishers, familiarity with developments in the sphere of electronic resources. Previous cataloging experience (preferably using OCLC and SIRSI library system), strong computer skills, working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Lotus Notes and the Internet. Knowledge of Microsoft Access is desirable. Benefits include university contributions to TIAA/CREF, tuition benefits, medical plans.
