Position Announcement #1

Information Literacy Librarian: Coordinates the library instruction program, including scheduling sessions, assigning instructors, developing instruction programs, and collecting and analyzing data related to library instruction.  Delivers general and course-specific library instruction using a variety of technologies, tools, and resources.  Serves as a subject liaison with faculty, with responsibility for collection development and course-specific library instruction sessions.  Develops and implements policies/procedures related to the library's Information Literacy program.  Participates in the provision of reference service to library users on-site and at a distance.  Serves on Library and University committees.  May be required to work some evening and/or weekend hours. Reports to Associate Director for Collection Development and Reference Services.

Qualifications:
Required:  MLS or equivalent from an ALA accredited program.  At least 2 years experience in reference and library instruction in an academic library.  Excellent written and oral communication skills; demonstrated strong commitment to library-customer focused services.  Ability to work independently and as a member of a team in a rapidly changing, demanding, and culturally diverse environment.  Demonstrated commitment to applying technology in the effective design and delivery of instruction.  Additional Desired Qualifications: Subject Master's degree. Experience with web page and database design/development.  Knowledge of reference resources in print and electronic formats.  Experience with non-traditional and/or first-generation college students.  Experience with development and implementation of assessment tools.

Salary:  Minimum $32,000, dependent upon qualifications and experience.

The University: Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi is located on a 240-acre island campus just 8 miles from downtown Corpus Christi, Texas and is surrounded by the warm waters of Cayo del Oso and Corpus Christi Bay. One of the fastest growing universities in Texas, A&M-Corpus Christi offers bachelors, masters and doctoral degree programs in addition to numerous teacher certification and continuing education programs.  The university is expected to become a doctoral intensive institution and to continue to grow rapidly over the next decade.

The Library: The Mary and Jeff Bell Library provides resources and services to assist users with their research and information needs. Over ½ million items are listed in Portal, the online catalog, and many more items are accessible through our electronic resources. Over 180 online databases and electronic journals contain scholarly material to assist students in completing research projects or assignments. The Library provides both in-person and electronic Reference service, instruction to classes on how to use the Library's resources, InterLibrary Loan to obtain items the Library does not own, a Media lab for accessing audio-visual material, and over 100 computers for use in research or the completion of course assignments. Laptop computers are also available for use within the Library. Special Collections and Archives houses a wealth of resources focusing on Corpus Christi, the Coastal Bend, and South Texas.  The Library is a selective depository for federal government publications and a comprehensive depository for State of Texas government publications. The Atrium of the Library contains popular magazines and a selection of daily newspapers. Group study rooms and a Very Quiet Study Area are available for student use. A valid SandDollar card is required to check out items.

Government Documents Librarian: Serves as the primary contact with the state and federal agencies that ensure compliance with federal and state depository regulations.  Oversees all aspects of government documents collection development, including annual item updates for federal documents, revision of collection development policies/procedures, and selection of new materials, including reference materials, added by purchase or gift. Provides primary reference services and classroom instruction for government publications in all formats. Works closely with the Technical Services Department to ensure that incoming depository materials are processed and that weeded materials are removed according to depository guidelines. Participates in the provision of reference service to library users on-site and at a distance.  Participates in the library instruction program. Serves as a subject liaison with faculty, with responsibility for collection development and course-specific library instruction sessions. Serves on Library and University committees.  May be required to work some evening and/or weekend hours.  Reports to Associate Director for Collection Development and Reference Services.
