Catalog Management Librarian
The Scarborough-Philips Library

The Scarborough-Philips Library at St. Edward's University seeks an
energetic, service-oriented librarian to provide leadership and expertise in
coordinating bibliographic access to all of the library's resources. The
successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, the ability to
work independently as well as with others, flexibility, organizational
skills, and the capability to work in an environment where decision-making
is a shared process.

Responsibilities
Establish the catalog as the database of choice by resolving authority
control problems,
and resolving cataloging/ILS problems and issues.
Enhance catalog usability by managing relationships among the ILS,
subscription agents, book vendors, and electronic resource management
systems, by managing projects related to the ILS, OPAC, and bibliographic
utilities.
Provide leadership in managing the bibliographic control of e-resources.
Provide original and complex cataloging for library items in all formats.
Supervise all copy cataloging, authority control, and related activities.
Regular rotation in reference services, including some evening and weekend
times,
Bibliographic instruction in rotation with the library faculty,
Collection development responsibilities for assigned subject areas,
Participation in the collegially-based management of the library.
Participation in library- and campus-wide activites,
Participation in regional and statewide library activities,
Maintain currency with standard and emerging cataloging issues.
The Catalog Manager reports to the Library Director. All librarians at St.
Edward's University enjoy faculty status and the opportunity for promotion
and tenure.

Qualifications
MLS from an ALA-accredited institution required.
At least two years' cataloging (professional or paraprofessional) experience
at a college or university library required.
Demonstrable proficiency in AACR2, MARC21, LCSH, LCC, MFHD, Dublin Core, and
electronic resource management tools required. Knowledge of XML, EAD, Conser
standards preferred.
Experience in decision-making, problem-solving, communication, working in a
collegial environment preferred.
Ability to assess and implement technologies preferred.
Supervisory experience preferred.
Experience in project management preferred.

Salary and Rank
Salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications and experience at the
instructor or assistant professor level. The appointment is for an eleven
(11) month renewable contract.
