Re: Price Increases: NPG titles specifically Sandhya D. Srivastava 19 Nov 2004 13:52 UTC

Hi Jill

We were shocked as well to see the nearly 45% increase we got for 2004.
I was told by to expect prices for 2005 to increase in US dollar terms
another 20% for 2005. I did ask our representative if they did
licensing for more than a one year term to hold prices at 7.5 -8%
increase rate and they said no they don't offer these.

We are not in a position to cancel these right now since we began the
electronic only two years ago and they are used by our Sciences Depts.

The UH Libraries have just received our renewal for the Nature monthly
titles and I have to say after last year's 45% sticker shock increases,
I thought I was jaded enough to not get riled up this year. Boy, was I
wrong. So I have a couple of questions.

1. Has anyone managed to arrange contract terms with Nature Publishing
Group that locks them into a set percentage price cap? If so, does
anyone care to share their secrets of negotiation as best you can
without breaching their confidentiality agreement.

2. How many other libraries are considering cancelling their
subscriptions to these titles?

Thanks,
