ANNOUNCEMENT OF FAUCLTY VACANCY Position: Electronic Resources Librarian Available: April 1, 2005 Description/Environment Brigham Young University (BYU), a privately owned and operated university of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located in Provo, Utah, invites application for a permanent continuing faculty status (CFS) track position in the Collection Development and Technical Services Division of the Harold B. Lee Library. The library is seeking a dynamic individual, who can perform well in a rapidly changing environment. Responsibilities: * Facilitate activities throughout the library to effectively identify, evaluate, acquire, promote, and access requested electronic and/or licensed information resources. * Negotiate price and license terms for electronic resources. * Collect and provide information necessary for evaluating the success of acquired electronic resources. * Maintain and update the electronic resource management database and recommend enhancements to the databases and associated operating systems. * Establish product/service demonstrations and evaluation processes and information for electronic resource evaluation. * Collect electronic resource usage and statistical data and prepare statistical management reports. * Communicate and collaborate with public services, collection and technical services, library systems entities/individuals to ensure successful patron access and usage of electronic resources. * Coordinate joint electronic resource acquisition and licensing activities with the Church Education System Consortium. * Maintain current awareness of trends, issues, and systems relative to electronic resources, licensing, and scholarly communication. * Participate in reference service, library instruction, and outreach assignments, as assigned. * Serve on Library and/or University committees, contribute to state, regional, and national committees; and participate in professional and scholarly activities. Qualifications Required: * MLS from an ALA-accredited institution is required. However, applicants who have related education or work experience and who are committed to completing the MLS within a specified period of time may be considered. * Academic library experience; preferably in a reference services, collection development, acquisition, or library systems environment. * Knowledge and understanding of electronic information resources, copyright and intellectual property rights, and scholarly communication issues and practices. * A demonstrated knowledge of library systems and technologies used in an academic library environment. * Demonstrated ability to work independently, understand and solve problems and complete projects in a timely and quality fashion. * Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. * Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, faculty, departments, and students. * Ability to teach and participate in outreach programs. * Demonstrated potential for scholarly production necessary for faculty professional development and rank advancement. * Flexibility in adapting to changing departmental and organizational priorities and adaptability in responding to ever-changing technological environments and increasing dynamic work environments. Salary and Benefits This is a permanent CFS track with generous insurance and retirement benefits. Salary is commensurate with experience and academic/professional qualifications.
