I agree with Caitlin, we use it and love it. I would add it is also
extremely easy to edit the pattern, so if you were expecting no. 734,
June 27, and what came in is no. 734/735, June 27 & July 4, it's No Big
Deal.

You need to make POs to pay for the title anyway, so here, at least,
that was not a big issue. Having each title on a separate PO leaves us
with the freedom to cancel or not pay for any reason (e.g., one behind
on publication or skipping a volume year) title per title.

Dear Sunny:
I also agree that Voyager is much superior for check-in than any manual
system.

I have an idea what you mean by cumbersome:
that for every check-in record you are required to enter a line-item
P.O. in Acquisitions (which is unnecessary with some ILS systems).
And there is the issue of having to individually suppress older issues
from the OPAC so that they do not fill up the OPAC screen.
And that the statement of holdings is not automatically updated after
each checkin (as with some systems).

But once your orders are in place and you have become accustomed to the
system's requirements, check-in is pretty much a breeze. I especially
like the ability to enter special issues with titles, and indexes. I
also think that Voyager's adherence to Marc Format Holdings Data puts it
at the head of the class.

Sincerely,

Hi,

One of our reference librarians here who had consulted before for
numerous libraries brought up the idea that we could perhaps return to
manual check-in and tracking for our ~500 journals. We currently use
Voyager Acquisitions which has been cumbersome for us in many respects.

I can see that this would be easier to deal with in certain respects but
also think that we would then lose the integrated information management
that Voyager offers. I would love to hear other perspectives on this
issue, so please feel free to respond!

Thanks,

Sunny
