11:30-12:30 Monday, October 17
Living with Google
Google is moving aggressively into the domain of libraries. Today, it is
impossible to say if this will be wonderful, awful, or both. Pundits
disagree! Dale Flecker, Associate Director for Planning and Systems for
the Harvard Libraries, reviews current Google developments, describes
the project to digitize massive quantities of materials from a number of
research libraries, and speculates on possible implications of having
Google as a major part of our library environment.

1:30-3:00 Monday, October 17
Inventing the 21st Century Library of Congress
Changes in information transmission are having a major impact on the
Library of Congress. Robert Dizard, Deputy Associate Librarian for
Library Services, describes the library’s work in forging its own
transformation, largely in response to technology, to ensure that it
continues to fulfill its mission of service to Congress and to scholars,
and increasingly, to the general public. The business meeting for
sponsoring NETSL section is included.

8:45-10:00 Tuesday, October 18
E-Resource Management Systems: From Vision to Reality
Digital Library Federation Electronic Resource Management Initiative
(DLF ERMI) is a project to develop standards and best practices for
electronic resource management in libraries. Following an overview by
Ivy Anderson from Harvard University Library, Ellen Finnie Duranceau of
MIT describes her library’s experience in working as a co-developing
partner and then evaluating whether to implement an e-resource
management system based on DLF standards.
