Position Title: Digital Acquisitions Librarian Office for Information Systems, Harvard University Library Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Program Manager, E-Resource Management and Licensing, responsible for a broad range of activities related to the acquisition, licensing and implementation of networked electronic resources at the Harvard libraries. Works closely with the E-resource Program Manager and with librarians and staff throughout the Harvard libraries to coordinate the evaluation, selection and implementation of electronic resources at Harvard. Arranges trials of prospective acquisitions with vendors; enters and maintains information about prospective resources and trials in the Harvard ERM (e-resource management) database, and works closely with Harvard librarians sponsoring new resource acquisitions and with other staff as necessary to facilitate the evaluation and implementation process and to develop and manage workflows. Researches library holdings for prospective shared acquisitions and prepares background materials for evaluation purposes. Oversees the implementation of new electronic resources in the Harvard Libraries e-Research portal (MetaLib). Manages resource implementation schedules and ensures that resources are moved into production in a timely manner. Participates in license review and interprets and encodes license information in Harvards e-resource management system. Oversees contract execution and administration to ensure that acquisitions and licensing paperwork is appropriately processed and filed. Responsible for maintaining accurate information about Harvards electronic journals, journal packages, and other complex acquisitions, including holdings, title changes, and renewals; manages de-selection and withdrawals. Has primary responsibility for maintaining the librarys SFX link resolution database. Maintains usage statistics and other related information in the Harvard e-resource management system, and designs queries and reports. Troubleshoots acquisitions-related online resource problems and participates in ongoing e-resource management and problem triage. Develops and maintains the Digital Acquisitions web pages. Serves on Harvard-wide library committees and task forces dealing with electronic resources. Trains and supervises clerical and student staff in a variety of tasks to support digital acquisitions activities. Participates in the ongoing design and development of systems and procedures for managing Harvard's electronic resources, including the evaluation and possible implementation of a third-party e-resource management system. Writes and maintains relevant documentation. Other duties and projects as assigned. Requirements: MLS and 1-3 years experience working in a library setting, preferably in acquisitions or serials. Extremely well-organized individual with excellent attention to detail. Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong technical skills including: proficiency in HTML authoring and design, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and Access or comparable database program), and standard internet utilities such as telnet and ftp. Familiarity with unix and mysql query language and advanced knowledge of Excel a plus. Demonstrated interest in the management of networked information resources in libraries. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment.
