THE UNIVERSITY AND THE LIBRARY
The University Library, which is a highly valued partner in teaching and
research at the University, has more than 11 million volumes housed in
the Sterling Memorial Library and 22 school and departmental libraries.

RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has two distinct sets of responsibilities: 1) Library
Shelving Facility (LSF) Cataloging Coordinator and 2) Science Libraries
Cataloging Coordinator. The first aspect of the position oversees the
bibliographic processing of materials transferred to the Library
Shelving Facility involving a wide array of problem solving on both
monograph and serial records. The second aspect of the position is
responsible for coordinating the Science Libraries' cataloging
operations. Both aspects of the position report to the Catalog
Department.

The Library Shelving Facility (LSF) Cataloging Coordinator will work
under the direction of the Team Leader for the Catalog Management Team,
and have responsibility for managing LSF bibliographic control
activities. The incumbent is responsible for all activities associated
with LSF problem resolution, including insuring appropriate
bibliographic data, and will design efficient workflows and procedures,
maintain data to monitor efficiency, effectiveness and costs to meet the
LSF transfer goals. The LSF Cataloging Coordinator is a member of the
Catalog Management Team, which currently consists of four professional
and ten clerical and technical employees.

The Science Libraries Cataloging Coordinator will work under the
direction of the Assistant Head of Catalog Department, and coordinate
the cataloging operations in six science libraries and affiliated
libraries on the Yale University campus. While reporting to the Catalog
Department, the Cataloging Coordinator consults with the Director of the
Science Libraries in hiring, training, evaluating, disciplining, and
supervising the work of staff and monitoring productivity and quality of
work. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring appropriate quality
control, problem resolution, routine maintenance, and transfer of
Science Libraries materials to the off-campus Library Shelving Facility.

The incumbent will also participate in planning for and implementation
of changes in work organization and procedures; work closely with
appropriate Library staff in the identification and resolution of
problems that affect the Library catalog; and serve on Library-wide
committees and task forces as appropriate. The Coordinator represents
the Science Libraries on the Cataloging Coordinating Committee and other
appropriate library-wide committees. The successful candidate will work
closely with the Director of the Science Libraries, the Chief Catalog
Librarian and the Assistant Head of Catalog Department, as well as
interacting with other staff members in the Science Libraries and
Catalog Department, to ensure coordination of different cataloging
functions and implement a system of cataloging priorities to support
user needs.

Yale is a member of the Program for Cooperative Cataloging and
participates in the NACO and BIBCO programs. The incumbent will provide
descriptive cataloging in accordance with national standards and the
requirements of Yale's local Endeavor-based system, and will perform
subject analysis and classification in accordance with Library of
Congress schemes. The successful candidate will keep abreast of
revisions in cataloging rules and trends, and will apply new rules,
interpretations and techniques as appropriate. He or she will also
participate in Catalog Department management, continual assessment,
training and development.

QUALIFICATIONS
Master's Degree from an ALA-accredited library science program. Requires
strong serials cataloging background, excellent communication and
analytical skills; ability to work independently and with others; and
ability to excel in a rapidly changing, automated team environment.
Supervisory experience, including hiring, training, evaluating, and
supervising the work of staff and monitoring productivity and quality of
work. Ability to manage a variety of tasks and multiple priorities, and
demonstrated experience developing and implementing effective work
routines. Logical and enthusiastic approach to work; careful attention
to detail; initiative and follow-through in equal measure. Requires
strong computer skills, including experience with personal computer
hardware and software, bibliographic services such as RLIN and OCLC, and
network-based tools desirable. A strong academic background in the
sciences is desirable, but not required. Thorough knowledge of AACR2,
Library of Congress rule interpretations, and Library of Congress
subject analysis practice. To be appointed as Librarian II must have
minimum of two years of relevant experience and achievement. To be
appointed as Librarian III must have a minimum of five years of relevant
professional experience and achievement.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
Rank and competitive salary will be based upon the successful
candidate's qualifications and experience (min: 50,000). Full benefits
