Allowable duplicates question Brady, Chris 28 Sep 2005 15:58 UTC

My collegue and I have been looking over documentation from OCLC
Bibformats and are completely puzzled over a statement regarding the
Type fixed field for Nonprint serials
(http://www.oclc.org/bibformats/en/fixedfield/type.shtm)

"Nonprint serials are no longer permitted on Serials format as allowable
duplicates."

In our case, we have an annual publication of statistics that we have
received in print and which now publishes the identical statistics on
CD-ROM. I would like to merely add the description of the CD-ROM to the
existing print record (there was no record for the CD-ROM separately
last I checked). But creating new cataloging for the electronic version
is also being considered.

As a related question, what does this mean for microform versions of
print serials?

Thanks in advance.
