Re: Technical Services Section programs for the 2005 SCLA Conference Derek Wilmott 19 Oct 2005 14:02 UTC

*** Please Excuse Cross-Postings***

Hello,

The SCLA Annual Conference is at the Marriott Columbia City Center Hotel
in Columbia, South Carolina, October 26-28, 2005.

In accordance with this year’s conference theme, “South Carolina: creating
the future, transforming the present,” the Technical Services Section is
sponsoring two sessions at the SCLA 2005 Annual Conference. Please join
Kate Boyd and Douglas King as they present, “Let’s get digital: USC’s
Digital Library Collection,” at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday. In just a few
short years, USC Thomas Cooper Library has established a very active
Digital Activities Center (DAC), offering a variety of online digital
collections to its patrons. The speakers will discuss the development as
well as current and future issues related to the DAC.

Immediately after the presentation, the Technical Services Section will
conduct its annual business meeting. Please plan to attend this meeting
to discuss relevant topics and elect new officers. This year’s candidates
are:

Chair: Mary Rose Adkins, Cataloging/Database Management Librarian, Dacus
Library, Winthrop University

Vice-Chair: Diane Yarborough, Technical Services Librarian, Presbyterian
College Library

Secretary: Douglas King, Special Materials Cataloging Librarian, Thomas
Cooper Library, University of South Carolina

Then on Friday at 9:00 a.m. join our panel with Margaret Fain, Micheline
Brown, and Allison Faix in their presentation of, “Cross-training public
services librarians for technical services operations.” This interactive
presentation will focus on the successful cross-training strategies
implemented at Coastal Carolina University’s Kimbel Library. Attendees
can participate in the breakout session following the presentation to
brainstorm and develop strategies for their institutions.

We hope that you will stop by to enjoy refreshments and participate in
interesting discussions that are shaping today’s libraries to meet
tomorrow’s needs. We are still accepting nominations for Chair,
Vice-Chair, and Secretary. So if you are interested in making a
difference, sharing ideas, meeting fellow professionals, and participate
in issues effecting Technical Services Librarians in South Carolina; then
consider being an Technical Services Section officer. Please send
nominations to:

Diane Yarborough at cdyarb@presby.edu or Derek Wilmott at Wilmott@gwm.sc.edu

Thank you,

Derek Wilmott
