Serials Cataloging Coordinator, Purdue University Libraries, West
Lafayette, Indiana

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Oversees serials cataloging operations, including
bibliographic control, database maintenance, and electronic serials
linking.  Supervises, trains, develops, and evaluates support staff
involved in serials cataloging activities.  Catalogs and classifies
serials in all formats and languages.  Serves as resource person for
Libraries faculty, professional and clerical staff in matters relating
to serials cataloging, database maintenance, and electronic serials.
Contributes to the planning and management of the Technical Services
Department as part of the supervisory team. Reports to the Head of
Technical Services.

REQUIREMENTS:  Master's Degree in Library or Information Science (ALA
accredited).  Minimum of three years academic or research library
experience, with at least two years in serials cataloging, including
original and copy cataloging and catalog maintenance.  Experience with a
bibliographic utility (OCLC preferred) and an integrated library system
(Voyager preferred).  Current knowledge and experience in the field of
electronic access to information.
Successful supervisory experience, including training and evaluating
personnel.  Strong communication, interpersonal and problem-solving
skills.  Good planning and organizational skills.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Familiarity with team-based organizations.
Working knowledge of authority practices, AACR cataloging rules and LC
rule interpretations, OCLC/MARC formats and CONSER standards.  Reading
knowledge of Romance languages, German and/or Russian.  Familiarity with
Dewey Decimal classification.  Familiarity with ANSI/NISO serials
holdings standards and with USNP newspaper cataloging standards.

SALARY:  Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
STATUS AND BENEFITS:  Exempt professional.  Appointment on a fiscal year
basis, with annual vacation of 22 working days.  Flexible benefit
programs. TIAA-CREF retirement.
