Re: Donating bound journals to Hurricane affected libraries Ham, Deb 07 Dec 2005 20:10 UTC

Absolute Backorder organized to do this. See their main website for
details:

http://www.absolute-inc.com/_/

Library Disaster Recovery Response from Absolute Backorder Inc.

In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, Absolute Backorder Service is in the
process of developing two significant offerings for all libraries
affected by this disaster. As a vendor in the print back volume and
issue industry, we have developed a substantial online inventory that is
title, volume and issue specific.

Absolute will offer all libraries that experienced a loss of serial back
volumes due to Hurricane Katrina free replacements with no obligation.
Every volume and issue in our inventory,
http://www.absolute-inc.com/_/inventory/, which is updated daily, will
be shipped at no charge. This program will take effect immediately for
qualified libraries and continue through December 2007.
Our second offering is being developed through our experience with
disaster planning and recovery. Hundreds of libraries are interested in
helping and yet there are no centralized services to coordinate specific
journal back volume and issues. Our IT staff is aggressively working on
a database to post all available donations in one location for libraries
in need. This too will be offered at no charge to those affected by the
devastating hurricane.
Our plan is to create a Hurricane Katrina link on our website over the
next few days with more specific information. In the interim, please
contact myself, Glenn Jaeger, at jaeger@absolute-inc.com with any
additional questions you may have.

We at Absolute extend our heartfelt sympathies to all our brothers and
sisters in need. We trust our offerings to help "rebuild a region" will
be a small contribution in getting collections and more importantly life
back to normal.

Sincerely,
Glenn Jaeger, President

Subject: [SERIALST] Donating bound journals to Hurricane affected
libraries

I've recently started a new job in serials and reference at DeSales
University.
I've discovered that we have several shelves of duplicate journals
(mostly bound). I would like to offer these issues to any library that
may need them that has been affected by Hurricane Katrina or Wilma. Has
a program already started up to offer journals to affected libraries?

Thanks,

Heather
