 The University of Vermont seeks a self-motivated, flexible, innovative
and service-oriented professional to serve as Catalog Librarian - Library
Assistant/Associate Professor.  Reporting to the Director of Collection
Management Services, responsibilities include:

- Performs original and complex cataloging in a variety of subjects,
languages, and formats with particular emphasis on monographs for the
general collection, rare books and special collections.

- Supervises 4 staff, and work-study students as needed, in cataloging
unit and coordinates their work and involvement in special projects.

- Participates in planning and policy making within the Collection
Management Services Group in the areas of innovative operational uses of
library automation in technical services.

- Serves as a resource person in developing and implementing policies and
procedures to manage cataloging/metadata issues of evolving electronic
resources.

- Works in close coordination with the Cataloging Council (management
group) to provide leadership and, in a collaborative group environment,
direction and planning for overall cataloging workflow.

- Serves in rotation, with other members of the Cataloging Council, in
organizing and planning meetings for Cataloging Working Group to develop
and implement cataloging policies and procedures.

- Serves as the principal resource person in regard to cataloging of
monographs for the general collection, rare books and special collections
materials.

- Performs additional duties as assigned.

On a hill overlooking the eastern shore of Lake Champlain between the
Green and Adirondack Mountains, the University of Vermont combines
faculty-student relationships most commonly found in a small liberal arts
college with the resources of a major research university. There are
nearly 10,000 undergraduate, graduate, and medical school students and
more than 1,150 full- and part-time faculty.

The University of Vermont is located in Burlington, Vermont's largest city
with a metropolitan population of over 125,000, which offers a vibrant
music and arts scene, year-round outdoor recreational opportunities, and
overall high quality of life. Nearby Burlington International Airport
offers frequent jet access to major Atlantic and Midwest hubs, and the
city of Montréal is an easy drive 100 miles/160 km to the northwest.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree in librarianship from a program accredited by the American
Library Association or international equivalent; a minimum of 5 years
relevant professional cataloging experience in an academic or research
library; demonstrated experience in original and complex cataloging and
working with special collections; demonstrated leadership and supervisory
experience in cataloging; knowledge of the use and application of
cataloging tools and references, including AACR2 revised, DCRM, LCSH, LC
classification, MARC21 formats and metadata standards, and LC Rule
Interpretations; experience with online computer library systems,
including OCLC cataloging utility (Connexion client software experience
preferred), integrated library systems (e.g., Voyager), Internet
applications (e.g., email, WWW), and office applications (Word processing,
spreadsheets, presentation software, etc.); knowledge of authority work;
experience working in a collaborative, group management environment;
commitment to professional growth; reading knowledge of one or more
foreign languages (German preferred); excellent interpersonal and
communication skills; demonstrated ability to pay attention to detail;
commitment to diversity and inclusion required.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Record of accomplishments within the library profession including
research, publication, and service activities; web page skills; ability to
work effectively and creatively in a changing environment; ability to work
independently; understanding of the information needs of a research
community; experience in public services.

APPOINTMENT AND APPLICATION INFORMATION

Appointment at the rank of library assistant or associate professor
(non-tenure track) will depend on qualifications. Salary is commensurate
with experience, not less than $42,025 for the rank of assistant professor
or no less than $50,430 for the rank of associate professor.
