POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT:
COLLECTIONS COORDINATOR
UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON LIBRARIES

Responsibilities:  The Collections Coordinator coordinates collection development and supports the work of the subject collectors across the Libraries.  This position ensures that collection development infrastructure (approval plan, vendor-related collection management databases, collections intranet site, etc.) are managed and maintained.  It is responsible for providing orientation for librarians to materials selection and faculty liaison duties.  The Collections Coordinator also manages the Libraries’ text books for core courses program, the serials review program, and collections gifts.  The position oversees the development and dissemination of a range of collections-related statistics.  In addition to supporting the subject selectors, the Collections Coordinator works closely with managers in serials, acquisitions, and electronic resources.  The Coordinator may also provide reference service at a general reference desk and be responsible for collection development in !
 appropriate subject areas.

The Collections Coordinator is a librarian position.  Librarians hold academic ranks pursuant to the University of Houston Librarians' Governance document. They are expected to develop a record of service and professional involvement.

Qualifications:  Required:  ALA-accredited Master’s degree; excellent planning, analytical, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.  Ability to work independently and in a team environment.  Strong commitment to serving library users.   Work experience in the areas of collection development and liaison to faculty; demonstrated interest in the areas of collection development, collection management, and scholarly communication.  Preferred:  Experience with database and spreadsheet software packages, HTML coding and Web page design, and the Innovative Interfaces integrated library system.

Salary:  $42,000 to $46,000 expected hiring range, depending on qualifications. Comprehensive benefits package; choice of retirement programs including TIAA-CREF; tax-deferred annuity program available; release time to take a class up to 3 hours/week; no state or local income tax.

Library Information:  This position will eventually be part of a reorganized unit for collections, acquisitions, and serials.  The current materials budget for the UH Libraries is in excess of $6 million.

The UH Libraries are a member of the Association of Research Libraries, the Greater Western Library Alliance, and the Texas Digital Library Alliance.  The Libraries hold over 2 million volumes.
