The Library Binding Institute (LBI) is offering assistance grants to those
whose libraries were affected by Hurricanes Katrina and/or Rita. The
purpose of these grants is to enhance the professional development and
improve the expertise of binding staff and librarians responsible for
commercial binding, binding decisions, and binding advocacy in their
libraries. These grants have been established by the Library Binding
Institute (LBI) for attendance at the morning and/or afternoon modules of
the preconference workshop. The grants will cover the half-day
registration cost ($99 value) for a staff member or a librarian from
libraries affected by Hurricanes Katrina and/or Rita to attend the morning
and/or afternoon preconference modules. Applicants can apply for grants to
cover their attendance of both modules. More than one person from the same
library can apply.

Please submit a cover letter with the name and primary contact information.
Non-ALA members may also apply. Please include:

1. Description of the person’s job, which must include commercial
binding preparation responsibilities, binding decision making, and/or
binding
advocacy. Please indicate the length of time in this position, describe
the need for
taking this workshop, and how your library was affected by Hurricane
Katrina and/or Rita.

2. A one-page vita of nominated candidate.

Electronic submissions are preferred. All proposal elements should be
collated and submitted in a single Word document attachment via email to
Debra Nolan, LBI Executive Director, at dnolan@lbibinders.org. Deadline to
apply: April 19, 2006

Selection will be made by a panel of three ALA ALCTS members. Criteria
for selection will include need; responsibility for binding preparation,
decision-making, and/or advocacy; and length of time in binding position.
