Re: Serials for one school moving to another school Stokes, Judith 26 Jul 2006 18:36 UTC

Hi Mary,

If I understand your situation correctly, what you should do is show all the holdings in both catalogs. What you can manage to keep up with may be less than that. If the only thing that is changing is who pays for the journals, you don't want to make it look like they have been cancelled. (Patrons don't often read notes.) I would not close the summary holdings in the old system -- just add notes that more detailed information about later issues is in the other catalog. And in the new system, put the whole run in the summary holdings record, so patrons don't have to duck in and out of catalogs to find out what is on the shelves.

Good luck,

Subject: [SERIALST] Serials for one school moving to another school

Hello,

For years, we have subscribed to many magazines for Art Institute of
California, Los Angeles and the bib and holdings records are in one
OPAC, Athena. We are moving the subscriptions of several of them over
to Argosy University's collection and the records to its OPAC, Voyager.
Physically, there is no change in where the magazines reside -- the
patron won't know the difference.

My questions are these:

How do I "close" the holdings in the Art
Institute's catalog?

Do I make a 500 in Athena to the effect that Art
Institute's last issue is XXX and further holdings can be found by
looking in Voyager, along with a similar note in Voyager saying back
issues can be searched in Athena?

Thanks!

Mary Edwards
