Queen's University Library is seeking an innovative, enthusiastic and service-oriented Serials and Electronic Resources Librarian. Working collaboratively in a team-based environment, and reporting to the Head of the Central Technical Services unit, the Serials and Electronic Resources Librarian is responsible for the supervision of the Serials Group (7 Library Technicians) and for managing the acquisition of serials and other continuing resources in all formats. The Librarian oversees the group's work in the Endeavor Voyager ILS, coordinates the unit's management of the Library's Ex Libris Verde ERM system and troubleshoots electronic resource access problems. The librarian monitors trends in electronic resource acquisitions, cataloguing and metadata standards, providing leadership in the formulation of policies. The librarian participates in fostering flexibility, creativity and the development of innovative methods of service delivery, building on current processes and workflows and developing and implementing new approaches as necessary. In cooperation with others, the librarian develops and delivers training initiatives to support the flexible workflow required to meet the unit's service goals. The librarian assists and advises the Unit Head in the continued reorganization of the Unit; acts as a cataloguing resource for staff, performs original cataloguing of serials and other continuing resources, and creates and maintains authority records. The librarian works collaboratively with all staff and participates beyond the unit in the promotion of Queen's University Library's vision of the learning organization.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:   An ALA accredited MLIS or equivalent; demonstrated supervisory and management ability and the ability to mentor and motivate staff in an environment that supports the goals of a learning organization; experience with electronic resources; knowledge of current trends and new technologies relating to electronic resources; some knowledge of and/or experience with acquisitions; ability to plan, develop and deliver training programs; superior interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment; strong analytical and problem-solving skills; high degree of flexibility and openness to change; excellent organizational skills; strong commitment to user services; ability to work effectively under pressure; ability to work well in a team-based and self-directed environment.

Preferred:   Experience with the acquisition of serials and/or electronic resources; experience with cataloguing serials and other continuing resources.

ENVIRONMENT:

Queen's University Library comprises five major libraries in well-equipped facilities. It serves a user community of approximately 18,000 students and 800 faculty with research collections exceeding 7 million items, more than 16,000 electronic journals and 400 databases; a staff of 160; and a budget exceeding $17 million. A team-based organization based on the goals of the learning organization was introduced in 1999 to encourage innovation and flexibility in meeting the service needs of the Library's user community.

The Central Technical Services unit has a staff complement of 27 fte (4 librarians and 23 library technicians) and is responsible, either entirely or in part, for acquiring and making accessible library resources to meet the research, teaching and learning needs of the humanities and social sciences, physical and applied sciences, law and education library communities.

Salary and rank for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a continuing track appointment, available immediately.
