Re: Univ. of Chicago Press journals Paul Bary 26 Oct 2006 14:27 UTC

  Sandy, et al.:

It is hard to know how to contend with UCP's large increases. I checked the first two titles in the UCP list, and it looks like about a 50% increase for renewing with unlimited electronic access. Please let us know what response you get to your letter to UCP.

Thanks.
Paul

[FYI, this is the letter I received from EBSCO about this issue:

As you may or may not know, University of Chicago Press titles will not include free online for 2007. They are offering print & online with up charge with 2 different licenses available.

Non-enterprise Wide License has geographic restriction and usage concurrency of one.

Enterprise Wide License has no limit on the number of concurrent users & no geographic restriction. It is tiered pricing base on the number of FTE (Full-Time Equivalents).

There is alot of information on their website (www.journals.uchicago.edu ) about the benefits of the Enterprise WIde License.

I need to know asap if you want us to renew for print & online with up charge and, if so, if you want the Non-enterprise Wide License or the Enterprise Wide License.]

decision at the Univ. of Chicago Press to offer their journals at two
levels of access: non-Enterprise (1 geog. location & 1 concurrent
user) and Enterprise-wide (unlimited geog. location and unlimited
users)? Till this shift, we have had multiple-user access to our UCP
journals at our one location. Now our access will be reduced to 1
user, unless we pay the 30% higher price. I have written to UCP to ask
them to offer other alternatives (such as 1 geog. location, 3-5 users)
or at least give us some way of knowing how many users are turned away
so we can make an informed decision about paying the higher cost.
