Re: Serials Solutions - ACM branding problem Ripley, Erika 01 Dec 2006 01:42 UTC
We're also consortium subscribers to the ACM Digital Library and Serials Solutions customers. I got mixed results when I spot checked titles in our Serials Solutions A-Z list. Many titles incorrectly list "ANKOS," but some did correctly list our consortium by name. I had not noticed this before, but I'll be checking in with Serials Solutions. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. - Erika ******** Erika Ripley Periodicals Librarian Southern Methodist University P O Box 750375 Dallas, TX 75275-0375 214-768-4016 -----Original Message----- From: SERIALST: Serials in Libraries Discussion Forum [mailto:SERIALST@LIST.UVM.EDU] On Behalf Of Warren, Bill Sent: Thursday, November 30, 2006 1:38 PM To: SERIALST@LIST.UVM.EDU Subject: Re: [SERIALST] Serials Solutions - ACM branding problem Greetings Susan, We subscribe to both Serials Solutions and the ACM Digital Library. Our access to the ACM Digital Library is through a consortium, rather than as an individual institution. I checked several titles to see if we get the correct branding. When we reach a title using the Serials Solutions link in the A-to-Z list, the name of the consortium is correctly displayed. So, apparently your problem is not a universal one. I'd like to know if when using the URLs for ACM titles provided by Serials Solutions in the A-Z portal results in your seeing branding for an institution other than your own. Serials Solutions uses a looooooong URL to link to ACM journals' home pages because that is what most librarians prefer. Example: ACM Transactions on Applied Perception is <http://portal.acm.org/browse_dl.cfm?linked=1&part=transaction&idx=J932& c>http://portal.acm.org/browse_dl.cfm?linked=1&part=transaction&idx=J932 &coll=portal&dl=ACM&CFID=29011489&CFTOKEN=88604797 Unfortunately, when I click on the long URLs like these, I see different institutions' brandings (VIVA University Library Serials, Consortia Canada, Michigan Library Consortia, etc) under the ACM Portal logo. I've asked Serials Solutions to change the URL's to the table of contents shortcut (example: http://portal.acm.org/toc.cfm?id=J932) because I see my own institution's branding this way, but they won't do it because librarians don't prefer the TOC level link. Serials Solutions cannot duplicate my problem and they suggested I clear my cache, which I did, but I get the same results. If you'd be willing to spot check a few titles and let me know if you see your branding or another institution's, I'd appreciate it.
