Systems Librarian-Assistant or Associate Professor

The Robert B. Greenblatt, M.D. Library of the Medical College of Georgia
invites applications for Systems Librarian, a faculty position responsible
for managing and supporting library application systems and related
technology, and for advancing the Library's systems portfolio. The Systems
Librarian collaborates to ensure the introduction, adaptation, development
and implementation of web-based library systems in a way that enhances
access and meets the needs of MCG students, faculty and staff.

The Medical College of Georgia (MCG) is Georgia's public health sciences
university. It has over 2000 students in its Schools of Medicine and
Nursing, Dentistry, Allied Health Sciences and Graduate Studies, a hospital
with over 80 specialty clinics and centers, and an award-winning Children's
Medical Center.

Augusta, located along the banks of the Savannah River adjacent to South
Carolina, has a population of over 200,000 and is the fastest growing MSA in
Georgia. It is the second oldest city in Georgia and is rich in history and
architectural diversity. Host of the renowned Masters Golf Tournament each
spring, the springtime display of azaleas and dogwoods has earned the city
the title of the "Garden City". With mild winters, and tropical summers,
Augusta attracts history buffs, nature lovers, art and museum visitors and
sports fans.

Responsibilities

.Shares leadership for application of technology in ways that enhance access
to health sciences information resources and support effective delivery of
Library services and programs

.Supports Library application systems, access to content and other needs of
the traditional and Virtual Library, including EZProxy, SFX, Library
website, Voyager, ILLiad, Ariel:

                -works collaboratively to manage or implement automated
systems

                -configures and maintains systems as part of applications
administration function

-coordinates or participates in systems installations and upgrades

-monitors system performance and log files

-troubleshoots application problems in concert with USG, ITSS, Library
staff, and vendors; reports problems appropriately; follows up on reported
problems

-maintains connections (Z39.50, XML, HTTP, etc.) to external systems as
required

-creates, investigates, implements and tests modules, and features

-extracts data for reporting; provides customized reporting from Voyager and
other systems

                -participates in selection of new library application
systems, electronic resources and       technology

-evaluates and makes software and hardware recommendations

-customizes application interfaces; may build or collaborate in building
interfaces; works with others to ensure effective technical interfaces

-integrates or collaborates in integrating third party applications with
Voyager and other library systems

-documents library application system procedures and practices

-designs and delivers training in the use of Library systems and
applications

-ensures adherence to technology best practices and library and technical
automation standards

.Collaborates to design and implement creative ways to: 1) utilize new
technology; 2) extend and build on existing library systems functionality;
3) make system improvements

.Builds or coordinates the building of Library management information
reporting systems

.Serves as project manager, functional lead or team member on automation
projects developed within or outside of the Library

.Participates in Library strategic technology planning; may participate in
drafting of technology portions of the Library's annual and strategic
planning documents

.Monitors relevant professional literature, listservs and venues; shares
information on library technology and technology trends with Library
management and staff

.Serves as liaison with ITSS and library automation vendors, as assigned

.Serves as a liaison to selected units and departments of MCG and serves on
committees to fulfill responsibilities as a faculty member of the Corps of
Instruction.

.Participates in activities of local, regional and national associations for
librarians and related professions.

Qualifications

ALA-accredited M.L.S. with concentrated information technology
proficiencies.  Minimum of three years of recent experience in: 1) managing
and administering library systems, including a major integrated library
management system (Voyager preferred); and, 2) developing and supporting a
Virtual Library.  Knowledge of core library operations and understanding of
MARC and bibliographic record structures. Substantial knowledge of library
and information technology standards, protocols, issues and trends.
Excellent technical and web technology skills: XML, HTML, CSS, PHP, Java,
FrontPage, DreamWeaver, Windows, Unix, Novell, Linux, Oracle/Oracle Portal,
SQL, SFX, EXproxy, DSpace, GroupWise, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, project
management and other Microsoft Office tools. Demonstrated ability to thrive
in a busy customer-focused team environment.  Excellent oral and written
communications skills and interpersonal skills.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

Experience in an academic or academic health sciences environment, project
management and Voyager certification (Level 500) preferred. Knowledge of
EZProxy, Voyager, SFX, ILLiad, Ariel may be given preference in review of
applicants.

Salary & Benefits

The position has faculty status (non-tenure track) and rank. Benefits are
competitive, including TIAA/CREF and other retirement options. The minimum
salary is $53,000, depending on experience. Priority review of applicants
will begin January 16 and continue until the position is filled.
