Re: keeping track of bound and unbound volumes Mays, Allison 01 Feb 2007 21:20 UTC

We used to use those accession-type stamps. They automatically roll to
the next number. You could get 2: one for bound, one for unbound.

We don't use accession stamps anymore. The stamp got messed up somehow
and the numbers were skewed. We did a manual count of the bound and went
from there. (I don't count unbound.) Now to get my total number of bound
volumes added at the end of the year, I simply use the invoices from the
bindery. There is a nice, neat volume count every month.

Will your ILS allow you to run some kind of report to count the unbound?

This is terribly non-high-tech, but to keep track of volumes discarded,
I have a piece of paper on a bulletin board and jot down the title and
the number of volumes discarded. May not be very sophisticated, but it
works.

Subject: [SERIALST] keeping track of bound and unbound volumes

Hi,

We are a small college library and we are only starting to bind our
journals. We
would like to keep track of the volume count of our bound and unbound
journals (delineate which are bound and which are not). How best do we
keep
track of this count, and how best should we monitor the ebb and flow of
volumes coming in and volumes getting discarded? Some titles, we only
keep
for one year (current and previous year retained). Any suggestions
appreciated!
Thanks,
Lizah
