POSITION ANNOUNCEMENTS

If you are dynamic, knowledgeable, energetic, innovative,
service-oriented, and excited by the challenges facing today*s
academic libraries, then the Texas A&M University Libraries is the place
for you. We are seeking candidates with the attributes listed above for
the positions listed below. All the positions are tenure track with
faculty status and rank and require the ability to meet the requirements
of a tenure-track appointment.

Each position requires an ALA-accredited M.L.S. degree (or equivalent);
excellent oral and written communication skills; a commitment to strong
customer service within and outside libraries; excellent interpersonal
and teamwork skills complemented by the ability to take initiative; the
capability to work independently; demonstrated experience using library
related information technologies; and commitment to work with persons
from culturally diverse backgrounds.

Electronic Resources Librarian
The Electronic Resources Librarian plans, manages, maintains, and
evaluates the Libraries* electronic resources access systems and
reviews and negotiates contract terms in collaboration with the
Coordinator of Electronic Resources. This includes the management of our
link resolver, federated search platform, electronic resources
management system, and other associated systems.  The Librarian will
manage the setup and maintenance of access records for existing, new,
and trial electronic resources, including updates to the systems*
knowledge bases.  The librarian will have primary responsibility for
communications with other units of the Libraries regarding electronic
resources access issues, including staff supporting Reference, Virtual
Reference, Cataloging, and Systems. The librarian will also have
responsibility for extracting, compiling, and analyzing use data and
other statistics related to electronic resources.
Desirable: Broad knowledge and understanding of issues concerning
electronic resource management and access systems; experience in the use
of data management software for extracting, compiling, and analyzing use
and other data; and experience in reviewing and negotiating contract
terms, and in working with vendors to set up and maintain access.

Government Information Librarian
The Government Information Librarian is responsible for the collection
and administration of print and electronic local, state, federal and
international government documents and related materials.  The librarian
will coordinate documents processing and will work with cataloging,
subject specialist librarians, and web services staff to provide
multiple points of access. The librarian will make recommendations
regarding program changes in the areas of state, U.S., and international
documents and will develop interpretive materials, including web-based
guides that enhance access to and promote use of government information.
The librarian will also provide reference and instruction in the use of
the collections to both internal and external users.
Desirable:  One year experience working with U. S. government
information in electronic formats; document cataloging and/or processing
experience; and knowledge of historical and current trends in government
print and electronic document cataloging, metadata, and access methods.

Science and Engineering Librarian
The Science and Engineering Librarian serves as the liaison to selected
departments and programs within the Colleges of Science and/or
Engineering. The librarian will develop and share subject expertise in
assigned areas, working collaboratively with the Science and Engineering
Group, and the heads of reference, instruction, liaison, and collection
development services.   The librarian will create and deliver a program
of outreach services to include library promotion and needs assessment
as well as reference and instruction in support of these areas as well
as the general population of students, faculty, and staff. Using in
depth knowledge of the libraries* subject collections in assigned
areas, the librarian will develop the collection accordingly.
Desirable:  Degree in science, mathematics, engineering, or other
technical field; minimum of one year work experience in a science or
technical field or library; and knowledge of science/ engineering
reference tools.

Education and Social Sciences Librarian
The Education and Social Sciences Librarian serves as the liaison to
selected departments and programs within the Colleges of Liberal Arts
and/or Education. The librarian will develop and share subject expertise
in assigned areas, working collaboratively with the Humanities/Social
Sciences/Area Studies Group, and the heads of reference, instruction,
liaison, and collection development services.   The librarian will
create and deliver a program of outreach services to include library
promotion and needs assessment as well as reference and instruction in
support of these areas as well as the general population of students,
faculty, and staff. Has in depth knowledge of the libraries subject
collections in assigned areas, and develops the collection accordingly.
Desirable:  Undergraduate degree in social science or education or
related discipline; experience or strong interest in teaching; and
knowledge of education/social science reference tools.

ENVIRONMENT:     Texas A&M University Libraries is a member of
Association of Research Libraries (ARL) and is the University's
principal research and information center, providing 3.6 million
volumes, 5.5 million microforms, 8,000 current print journal
subscriptions, 35,000 electronic journal subscriptions, 300,000
electronic books, and over 600 databases. The University Libraries ranks
8th among ARL libraries in materials expenditures with an acquisition
budget of $14.5m. There is a total staff of 273, including 84 librarians
with faculty status. Librarians work in a sophisticated online
environment utilizing Voyager, SFX, Metalib, and a full range of
automated information retrieval services.

Founded in 1876, Texas A&M University has an enrollment of over 44,000
students making it the fifth largest university in the nation. An
integral part of the twin cities of Bryan and College Station, the
University is situated less than two hours from Houston and Austin. The
campus is only a few hours drive from the attractions and sources of
recreation in the Texas Hill Country, the Piney Woods of East Texas, and
the Texas Gulf Coast.  Nearby are Houston's Johnson Space Center,
Galveston's Moody Gardens and historic Strand district, Austin's vibrant
music scene, San Antonio's River Walk, and many ways to experience the

public academic institutions in the nation by the year 2020.  Part of
this effort is broadening and strengthening the university*s programs
in liberal arts.

SALARY/BENEFITS/RANK: Faculty rank and salary is commensurate with
qualifications and experience, but is not less than $42,000.00.
