ACQUISITIONS ASSISTANT FOR MONOGRAPHS

DUMBARTON OAKS RESEARCH LIBRARY AND COLLECTIONS

The acquisitions assistants performs all of the duties necessary to
acquire monographs for a distinguished library (approximately 250,000
volumes) with world-renowned multi-language, multi-alphabet collections
in Byzantine and medieval studies, garden history and landscape
architecture, and Pre-Columbian studies. Aleph is used for all automated
functions.  Reports to Serials & Acquisitions Librarian.

This position performs bibliographic searching in Aleph and OCLC.
Transliterates bibliographic records for titles in non-Roman alphabets
using ALA-LC Romanization Tables. Identifies appropriate vendors.
Initiates communication with vendors for price and availability. Creates
and sends orders using the Aleph Acquisitions and Cataloging modules.
Identifies the appropriate fund for payment. Monitors order fulfillment
and generates claims to vendors as needed. Edits order records with
pertinent changes and notes the receipt date.  Creates invoices for
payment.

Qualifications:

Required: One year of library experience working in technical services,
preferably in acquisitions.  Strong integrated library system
experience.  Ability to work independently, exercise initiative in daily
tasks, and attend to detail.  A desire to participate in a collaborative
environment.  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in order
to successfully contribute to an evolving work situation requiring
flexibility and versatility.  Preferred: College degree. Reading
knowledge of languages other than English. Experience with the Aleph
ILS.

Grade 52: Starting salary $30,000+ depending on experience. 35 hour week
