Naturally, we all wish publishers would be more deliberate about title
changes. For what it's worth, when I interviewed the editor of New York
State Conservationist, another serial known for a bit of waffling on its
title, he told me that in his mind there had been no title changes. I
didn't give him a hard time about it, but did get him to talk a bit
about why "New York State" has come and gone from the title. The
