LTS is a nimble, mid-sized organization that emphasizes public service; boasts robust collections and resourceful staff; encourages excellence, initiative and innovation; and is engaged in a number of bold and creative initiatives. These include the implementation of open source learning management and digital asset management systems; continued development of a full-service Information Commons; and deployment of federated searching and electronic resource management systems. The Assistant Director for Research and Instruction Services (Social Sciences) provides leadership for and oversees a variety of traditional and contemporary services offered in support of teaching, learning, and scholarship, focusing primarily on the Social Sciences. He or she manages a team of Research and Instruction Librarians and Technology Specialists specializing in these disciplines and coordinates closely with the Associate Director for Research and Instruction Services in strategic decision-making for the Research and Instruction Services team as a whole. The Assistant Director for Research and Instruction Services also provides leadership to the entire RIS group in the coordination of instruction programs or the provision of research assistance services. Qualifications: A thorough understanding of teaching, learning, and scholarship in the Social Sciences is necessary, as is supervisory experience and evidence of strong leadership qualities. Demonstrated experience and knowledge in the following areas are also required: provision of traditional and online library resources; library collection development; information, technology, and media literacy programs; and support of instructional uses of technology. The successful candidate will also show a demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, students and staff; effective interpersonal, verbal, and written skills; and a commitment to public service. A Masters Degree in Library Science and advanced study in a relevant subject area are strongly preferred. Experience in the following areas will be helpful: instructional design, pedagogy, multimedia, and project management.
