Jim Morrison, our NAPC (National Archives Publishing Company; was
UMI/ProQuest) representative, told me recently that they have a
newspaper filming service. If the newspapers are unbound, they can be
filmed for about 15 cents per page. If they are bound: first, the cost
is higher, and, second, the volumes must be taken apart in order to film
them. This also means that if you wish to have them re-bound, there is
the additional cost and you may lose inside margins in the process.

The phone number for NAPC is 800 420-6272 (420-NAPC).

I used to bind our college newspaper, but since I found out about this I
have decided to keep the issues unbound in case we decide to do this in
the future. I have just ordered a couple of something called a
"corrugated portfolio box" from Gaylord to keep the loose issues in.
They look like a cross between a large very flat box and a large
envelope (20 x 26 x 1 1/2) and are acid-free.

Hello, Serialisters!

We are embarking on a project to microfilm and digitize our school
newspapers (back to 1919)-fragile, darkened, some are bound, etc.

If you have some words of advice for me, a specifications sheet,
recommendations, warning, I would really like to hear from you.

Thank you!

Janie
