362 field for e-serials Bothmann, Robert L 12 Jun 2007 15:05 UTC

We are working on cataloging electronic journals that exist in print,
but we do not have the print. We only use separate records in our
catalog for serials.

Basically we are deriving the electronic record from the print. I cannot
find any good explanations of how to do this in CONSER or AACR with
regard to the 362 field.

If the print has no 362 and has 500 Description based on 1981, what do
we use for the electronic record?

CONSER mod. 31 says to use 362 1 Print began with: ...

Is this typically used only when that first print issue has not been
digitized?

Any guidance on this would be appreciated. Things have changed so much
that I'm not sure anymore what is current practice!

Thanks,
Bobby Bothmann
