Periodicals Librarian I.

Richland County Public Library, Columbia, SC.

Part-time, salaried (33.75 h/wk, including salaried benefits).

Main Library Periodicals Dept., 1431 Assembly St., Columbia, SC  29201.

Schedule: 33.75 h/wk: Mon 1-9; Tues 9-5:30; Wed 9-12:45; Thurs 9-5:30;
Fri 9-6; plus every third weekend Sat 9-6 and Sun 1:45-6.

Salary: $1,257.53 biweekly ($32,695.78 on an annualized basis), plus
salaried benefits.

Essential Functions:

Answer reference questions; provide periodicals information utilizing
print, online, and microfilm resources; provide advisory services and
bibliographic instruction; assist with periodicals collection
management; assist with microfilm collection and equipment, and bound
periodicals collection; assist with indexing magazines and newspapers;
assist with technical processing of serials records; assist with
supervision and training of professional and non-professional staff;
serve as night supervisor; act as department head in absence of dept.
head; assist Periodicals Manager.

Other Important Responsibilities:

Answer patron questions; communicate and interpret general library
policies and procedures to patrons; assist patrons in locating materials
and in use of library equipment; use microfilm equipment to assist
patrons with searches; process and check in materials as needed; assist
with statistics, maintenance of files and databases; other important
duties.

Minimum Qualifications:

ALA-accredited MLIS degree.

Eligible for or holds SC Certification.

Specialized subject knowledge or skills developed through work
experience and/or education where appropriate (highly desirable for this
particular position: management/supervisory skills developed through
relevant prior experience; and knowledge of Office products - Access,
Excel, and PowerPoint; knowledge of Library of Congress subject
headings, authority control, MARC bibliographic format).

Ability to perform job functions (for example, ability to use microfilm
readers and read microfilm are important tasks, although some training
is provided.)
