Non-Tenure Track Faculty Position Vacancy
Title:	Cataloging Librarian
Location: 	Health Sciences & Human Services Library,
		University of Maryland, Baltimore
Salary:  	$48,000 minimum

Position Announcement:
An excellent opportunity exists for a faculty librarian to manage the
cataloging, classifying, and related processing of library resources in
multiple formats, including print and electronic monographs; print and
electronic serials, including classified serials; and digital objects.
Reporting to the associate director for resources, this librarian
supervises the serials cataloger and the cataloging technician. This
librarian is instrumental in developing and implementing goals,
policies, and procedures for bibliographic control and maintains quality
control procedures for cataloging HS/HSL print and digital content. This
librarian participates in considering future issues affecting the
library's intellectual organization of information such as the
application of metadata analysis to the library's digital content. As a
hands-on cataloger, this librarian creates original and adapts existing
catalog records for materials in multiple formats according to AACR2,
Library of Congress (LC), and National Library of Medicine (NLM)
policies and practices using OCLC and MAR21 formats. This librarian also
represents the library in consortial activities as needed, collaborates
with other division librarians, serves on committees and teams, and is
active professionally.

Qualifications
Required:
MLS from an ALA-accredited library school with at least 3 years'
experience related to cataloging, classifying, and processing of library
resources in multiple formats, such as print and electronic monographs,
print and electronic serials, classified serials, and digital objects;
supervisory or project management experience; current and excellent
cataloging skills; demonstrated experience with OCLC or other
bibliographic utility; and experience with an integrated library system.
Must possess thorough knowledge of: MARC21 bibliographic, authority, and
holdings formats; LC and NLM cataloging policies and procedures; LC
classification schedules and practices; and use, interpretation, and
application of LC subject headings and/or NLM subject headings and the
Anglo-American Cataloging Rules (2nd ed., 2002 revision: 2004 update)
(AACR2 revised). Other required skills include a broad knowledge of
issues and trends in cataloging; experience transitioning from print to
digital resources; excellent analytical, interpersonal, and
organizational skills; ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative
data regarding library collections; demonstrated ability to work
effectively in library teams and projects; and ability to work in a
high-demand environment and effectively multitask.

Preferred:
Three to five years' professional cataloging library experience in an
academic or research library. Experience in an academic health sciences
library. Experience building positive faculty relationships with the
library. Involvement in professional activities. Experience with
cataloging metadata and associated authority control.
